Children's Department Computers
The Children’s Department computers are loaded with educational software and games, such as ABC Mouse. They have internet access and printing is available for a fee. These computers are for children through 6th grade (computer access for 7th grade and up is available in the Adult Department.). Parents or guardians are responsible for internet information accessed by children and are advised to supervise internet sessions. The child using the computer must have a valid library card. A parent or caregiver’s card cannot be used to access the children’s computers.
STEM Materials
The Children’s Department has a variety of hands-on STEM materials that can be checked out to teachers, community organizations, and homeschool families. Contact us at (814)536-5131 ext. 205 for our list of STEM Materials and Policy
IU8 Reading Competition
The Interscholastic Reading Competition provides students in grades 4 through 12 the opportunity to test their knowledge about books they have read. Teams from various school districts read different books selected in advance by the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 and compete each Spring and Fall, answering questions about those books. Reading Teams can compete on Elementary, Junior High or High School levels, so contact your home school district to see if your school has a team!
If you’re looking for a specific Reading Competition book, stop in the Children’s Department and check out our Reading Competition book display! We have copies of the books for each level of competition.
