Thursdays 12 to 4 p.m. 

“Hooked on Crochet” meets every Thursday to make afghans, prayer shawls and chemo caps for the Conemaugh Health System and the United Way of the Laurel Highlands. Anyone who enjoys crocheting, wishes to learn how to crochet or just wants to learn new stitches can join the group. If you wish to work on your own projects, join our group and make new friends!. Hooks, patterns and one-on-one instruction are provided.

4th Thursday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m.

Books On Tap meets at various restaurants in the area. We discuss both fiction and non-fiction books that are selected by the group. Books are distributed at the meetings for the next month’s reading, or are available for pick-up at the Circulation desk. Anyone interested in joining can email Richard Hess at hessr@cclsys.org.    

A Novel Idea Book Group 

2nd Tuesday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. 

This daytime book club discusses an eclectic mix of fiction and historical fiction books. Pick up your copy of this month’s book at the Circulation desk, then join us in the Classic Corner for discussion. This group is currently meeting remotely using GoToMeeting. Page Turners Book Discussion Group 

3rd Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. 

Page Turners is a community-led book discussion group, whose members choose monthly selections from the Johnstown District Library Center book kit collection. Meetings happen in the 55+ Classic Corner on the first floor of the library. New members are always welcome, along with semi-regular members who are only able to attend one-time or occasional meetings. The group encourages thoughtful and enjoyable discussion in its diverse selection of books from a variety of mostly fiction and some nonfiction genres.

The Scan PA Project is a program whose goals are to promote libraries as trusted repositories for local history and culture, remove barriers to digitizing local information, and to extend digitizing services to material owned by the public. Patrons can make an appointment with the Reference department to bring their photos, negatives, slides and VCR home movies to be converted to a digital file format. This service is free but patrons must provide a flash drive or external hard drive for files to be stored.

In addition, documents and photos pertaining to Johnstown area local history can be brought to the library to be scanned and preserved on the Power Library: PA Photos and Documents website.
