Q: How long can I borrow books? How many can I borrow?

A: eBooks and Audiobooks check out for a 14-day period. If eligible, books can be renewed for another two weeks. Patrons can borrow up at 5 books at a time. Items available after a Hold request are available for 3 days, if they aren’t claimed they will go to the next patron on the hold list.

Q: Why can’t I find my library in the list?

A: Look for “Johnstown Library District”, which includes all 14 libraries in the Cambria County Library System, as well as the Somerset County Federated Library System, Mary S Biesecker Library, Blairsville Public Library, Burrell Public Library, and Indiana Free Library.

Q: A book I was reading disappeared, what happened?

A: eBooks and eAudiobooks automatically return 14 days after they are borrowed. If a title can be renewed, a red “Renew” button will appear about a day before the item is set to be returned.

Q: I saw a book in the search results, why can’t I find it anymore?

A: There are two main reasons you may not be able to find a book:

  • It’s available through our cloudLink sharing: Our cloudLibrary platform connects to other libraires in PA. When a book is available from another library, you can borrow it just like it was our own copy. If the book is checked out by somebody else though, you won’t be able to find it until it’s available again. If you use the Suggestions feature, you can request we purchase a copy of it for our own collection.
  • Libraries do not actually own the digital copies of a book, but rather have a license to use a copy of the book. These licenses typically expire 1-2 years after the license was purchased. When the copy expires, it disappears from the collection.

Q: Does CloudLibrary work with Kindle Paperwhite devices?

A; Kindle Paperwhites do not allow third-party apps to be installed onto the devices. There is currently no way to access cloudLibrary on a paperwhite.

Q: How do I suggest books?

Books can be suggested by tapping the Filter Tab at the top right corner, then turning the “Suggestions for Library” feature on and saving these options. With Suggestions turned on, you can search for books and tap the orange “Suggest” tab to request a title. The library purchases items based on a variety of criteria, and not every suggested title may be purchased. Patrons can suggest up to 3 books per month.

Meet our Libraries

It's great that I can get books from anywhere in the county and pick them up at my local library!

-Leanna Bird

The Cambria County Library System consists of 14 independent libraries in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Each library in our federated system features its own programs, mission, and Board of Directors.

One library card provides access to all 14 libraries. Patrons can use their card at any member library location to borrow items or enjoy programs. Our libraries work together to allow patrons to request an item from one library, and pick it up at another.

Our libraries are proud to work with the Cambria County Commissioners to provide outstanding services in our county. Our system headquarters are located in Johnstown, PA.
